Patient Care Assistant Position Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), performs basic patient care
activities and unit support tasks to promote safe, efficient care and patient
throughput. Assists with activities of daily living and routine monitoring;
maintains a clean, well-stocked environment; supports nursing/physician staff
and tech desk operations. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.
FLSA: Non-Exempt.
Essential Functions
* Performs basic patient care as delegated and supervised by an RN, including
monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate
intake/output recording.
* Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating,
toileting, ambulation).
* Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional
findings to nursing staff.
* Keeps patient rooms and common areas clean, safe, and appropriately stocked.
* Manages the tech desk; supports nursing/physician staff and department
throughput.
* Documents care and activities per unit standards.
* Participates in performance improvement and required education; performs
other duties as assigned.

Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure: Occupational exposure may be present for all
employees in this role.
Physical Requirements (typical): Frequent standing, walking, reaching, keyboard
entry, repetitive hand/arm and foot/leg movements, kneeling, and lifting/moving
patients; occasional sitting and squatting; rare running or climbing. Near/far
vision and depth perception frequent/constant; color distinction frequent.
Environmental Exposures: Occasional exposure to biohazardous waste, communicable
diseases/pathogens, dust, gases/vapors/fumes, hazardous chemicals/medications;
latex exposure frequent.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education: High School diploma preferred.
License: SRNA or EMT preferred.
Certifications: BCLS required; Handle with Care preferred.
Skills: Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal
supervision in a stressful environment; rapid learning and navigation of
multiple software systems; effective English communication (read/write/speak);
ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
