The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) practices under the direction or supervision
of a licensed medical practitioner, a professional registered nurse, or other
licensed health professional authorized by regulations of the Department of
Health Regulatory Boards. The LPN coordinates and manages the care provided to
assigned patients. Under the supervision of the professional registered nurse
(RN), LPNs perform care appropriate to the patient population served and meet
daily routine patient care needs. The LPN performs their duties based on the
unit care delivery model. This role collaborates with the interdisciplinary team
to deliver care as outlined by the RN. The LPN adheres to a culture reflective
of Centra's best practices for quality and service, creates and maintains a safe
patient environment, and contributes to a healthy work environment. The practice
of the LPN reflects the American Nurses Association's Code of Ethics for Nurses
and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia.
