Description
The Palliative Care Coordinator provides assistance and coordinates the performance of various administrative, operational, and billing functions for the palliative care team. The functions include, but are not limited to, coordinating the billing/invoice process, authorizations, scheduling, communicating with patients/families/referral sources, and assisting with other administrative tasks. This role requires the ability to handle multiple processes simultaneously and prioritize and complete work within strict timeframes.

Requirements
Essential Job Functions:
Assists with pre-billing cycle to prepare claims for submission by billing company
May perform audits of patient accounts to ensure accuracy of information
Ensures accurate and compliant coding
Assists with administrative duties for the Palliative Care department including scheduling for providers
Performs other clerical/administrative duties as needed
Communicates the hospice and palliative care benefits, with patients, patient families, or representatives, ensuring accurate information is provided, needs and preferences are assessed and refers patient for appropriate services
Inputs palliative care patients into EMR with accuracy
Ensures admission paperwork has been completed and is scanned into the patient’s medical record
Completes care coordination under the direction of the medical provider
Completes daily and weekly activity report to communicate progress on referrals, rejected referrals, admissions, and pending admissions
Other duties as assigned

Adheres to patient rights, abuse reporting, and confidentiality policies
Attends scheduled staff meetings and in-service training
Adheres to the departmental dress code requirements related to personal grooming and attire
Participates in Performance Improvement activities as requested
Demonstrates reliability by making every attempt to report to work on time, providing proper notification for absence or tardiness, and follows policies related to time off requests
Assumes responsibility for on-going personal development and continuing education
Seeks guidance from supervisors as needed
Provides excellent customer service while maintaining a positive attitude and producing high-quality work

Physical/Safety Requirements:
Must have the strength and endurance required to perform all job functions
May be required to sit for extended periods of time, push, pull and lift up to 25 lbs., go up and down stairs, walk as needed
Utilizes appropriate PPE as needed
Able to follow the designated plan of action in the event of a fire or other emergency/disaster
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, work-related stresses, and driving hazards
The individual may be required to drive to meetings with clients, health care professionals or patients’ homes
Must be able to utilize appropriate basic office equipment
Must use appropriate body mechanics as needed

Position is Category 2 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids. (Does not usually require the performance of procedures or other tasks in the work routine that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but Category 2 tasks may require the unexpected performance of these procedures)

Qualifications and Experience:
Must be a certified Medical Assistant
Must have working knowledge of insurance verification process
Associate’s degree in business administration is preferred
Must possess excellent customer service skills and strong written and verbal communication skills
Must be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
Must be able to research and analyze data
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
Must be able to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with providers, management, staff, vendors, and contacts outside the organization
A working knowledge of relevant state and federal Hospice regulations is required
Proficiency in MatrixCare is preferred
Must have excellent data entry and Microsoft Office skills
Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to work under pressure is required
Must have excellent organizational skills
Candidate must be comfortable asking questions or presenting concerns
Must successfully complete a background check pursuant to NRS 449.188 and NRS 179A.100 along with a pre-employment drug screen and physical, TB testing, previous employment and reference checking, and an MVR, (may include verification of education)
Must have reliable transportation, possess a valid driver’s license, and current auto insurance
